mootools v1 officially released to the world

mootools from the guys at mad4milk is my favourite JavaScript framework and version 1 has just been released with many improvements and added features. And the new website is a million times better than the script.aculo.us redesign disaster.

Good news for people who want to use my Audio Player on a non-WordPress site: Mindy McAdams has very kindly written a nice tutorial explaining exactly how to do it.

Thanks Mindy!

Which Superhero am I?

So I decided to take the Superhero personality test. Not sure I’m 100% happy with being Robin… On the other hand, being 50% Spider-Man is pretty cool.

(Note: The web geek in me had to re-format the generated results table).

RobinYou are Robin.

Young and acrobatic. You don’t mind stepping aside to give someone else glory.

Robin 70%
The Flash 60%
Green Lantern 55%
Superman 55%
Spider-Man 50%
Iron Man 50%
Supergirl 48%
Wonder Woman 33%
Hulk 30%
Batman 25%
Catwoman 10%

Parallels Coherence: run Windows apps on your Mac desktop

Here’s a screenshot of the new Parallels beta running in Coherence mode with IE and Safari running on the same desktop:

Parallels Coherence: IE and Safari running side by side

Note that the Windows start bar and the OSX Dock are on the same screen. But the best part is that now you can drag and drop files from Finder to Windows Explorer and vice versa!

More information and nice demo videos here.

digg.com use my Audio Player

Yesterday, TechCrunch reported on digg.com launching two new sections: Podcasts and Videos.

I found out this morning that digg are using my Audio Player for their Podcasts section which is really cool. Incidentally, I also found out that TalkCrunch, the weekly TechCrunch podcast site, also use my player (via the excellent PodPress plugin).

This news has given me another motivation boost to complete the next release of my Audio Player. Features for version 2 will definitely include:

  • Simple standalone option for non-WordPress websites
  • Better handling of simultaneous open players (using my friend Pete’s excellent LcBroadcast class)
  • Better handling of bandwidth usage: pause button also pauses download. Note: This feature can be turned off.
  • Volume control
  • More options to control the interface (like removing certain elements such as titles)
  • WordPress version will include JavaScript method to embed player (great news for IE users)
  • Player will be resizeable (well, its width anyway)
