digg.com use my Audio Player
Yesterday, TechCrunch reported on digg.com launching two new sections: Podcasts and Videos.
I found out this morning that digg are using my Audio Player for their Podcasts section which is really cool. Incidentally, I also found out that TalkCrunch, the weekly TechCrunch podcast site, also use my player (via the excellent PodPress plugin).
This news has given me another motivation boost to complete the next release of my Audio Player. Features for version 2 will definitely include:
- Simple standalone option for non-WordPress websites
- Better handling of simultaneous open players (using my friend Pete’s excellent LcBroadcast class)
- Better handling of bandwidth usage: pause button also pauses download. Note: This feature can be turned off.
- Volume control
- More options to control the interface (like removing certain elements such as titles)
- WordPress version will include JavaScript method to embed player (great news for IE users)
- Player will be resizeable (well, its width anyway)

Has development halted on this? How is “2″ coming? I’m getting ready to use podpress and NEED the volume control.
I’ll donate if I get that feature.

found your player and really like it. Any thoughts about a video version? would it be as simple as changing the size and pointing to a video flv?

Well, I guess I will have to wait until 2.0 for the width variance feature (if you’re still planning that).
Thanks!

Doug: the player’s dimensions are fixed and changing them will always result in a distorted interface. Sorry…

Is there a way to maintain the default height of the player but vary the width? I would like to display the player in a sidebar, but it is to wide as-is right now. When I vary the width (say, to 150 pixels) in the object tag it shrinks it down to a minuscule height.
Any help would be enormously appreciated since I’m a complete Flash novice.
Thanks!

Martin-
I would like to make a suggestion. Would it be possible to make the FLA file available? So more advanced users can tweak the aesthetics a bit more? I love your player and think you did an amazing job on it’s styling, but I feel that I would prefer square edges over the round edges. Maybe just making the option available to people would work. Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

I have tried with all my heart, for a week now and making no progress with any of the music plugins. I’am will versed in macromedia flash for years I can make a 10,000 dollar corporate website in three days. But this blog stuff is making me ill, my daughter wants a blog not one of my flash sites…
the address: http://www.amandsblog.us/wordpress it’s nice but she wants to add songs with the artist names and title so more than one player is needed.
If anyone can load one on the site so i can copy it. I will give you the admin password. There is one loaded in the plugin directory “audio_player” I have followed all the instructions but to no avail…..

and a way to track listens

Hey again.
There are actually a few things hindering MP3 players at the moment, which I know yours could overcome.
Along with the next song buffering, the way they all handle missing files is a bit awkward. Yours gives back an error. It would be great if it did an error check, and defaulted to an error.mp3 and then continued on the playlist rather than displaying the error as text.
files come and go on the net, and the player could definitely handle the error more elegantly than falling off the tracks and crashing into silence like that. The default error.mp3 would be IMHO a much more attractive solution
cheers again…
