Minor update to Audio Player for WordPress

I have just released version 1.2.3 of my Audio Player plugin. This is a very minor update to offer a fix for users who are experiencing problems in Firefox. Prior to this version, the Flash player was embedded as a transparent movie. With certain WordPress themes, the player would be inert (the buttons would not work). This version adds a new option to the admin panel for setting the background colour of the Flash object. By default, it is set to transparent. If the player doesn’t work in Firefox, set the background color to the actual colour of you blog pages.

Thanks for this player, it’s really nice. It works very nicely outside of Wordpress, as outlined by pdedecker, with one tiny exception:

With Firefox, the player stops responding to mouse input when I add the CSS “overflow: auto” attribute to my container. But the same code works fine in IE.

I’m wanting to have a scrolling list of playable items in the middle of the page. As a CSS newbie, this overflow attribute is the only way I know to do that, so far. I tried the overflow-y. Same result. I tried moving the attribute higher in the hierarchy, no difference.

I am wondering if the problem might be related to the one you fixed in your latest release? I have tried this new release, but so the result is the same.

    Any ideas?

greg: it is the same problem. The fix is to remove the wmode parameter fom the object tag. In its place add this:

param name=”bgcolor” value=”color of your page”

Excellent, it now works great with the ‘overflow’ attribute in Firefox!

Having said that, the next thing I want to do is have just one player on the page, and scroll only the titles, each row with a little icon to start the single instance of the player. I was thinking about having a look at your Flash source, with the idea of control, from JavaScript (start, pause, and mp3 URL). Have you already thought about that?

Yeah. I have thought about it. There are a lot of things I could add to this plugin. I just haven’t got the time at the moment.

    Hi there,
I love this plugin. It’s realy quite brilliant.

One problem, though. I just got a note from a blind reader of my site who is very disappointed that the flash player isn’t supported by screen readers. That means she is no longer able to click and listen to audio files on our site. (Our site is all about audio, so this is very important to us)

Is there any function, either already enabled or could be built, that would enable a user to click a link and disable the flash player, instead just showing a download link?

In the short term, we’ve created an alternate view of the page from the RSS feed, but that’s only a temporary solution, as all of the functions of Wordpress are no longer available.

    Cheers,
    Dalton

Thanks for the player, but one question: with some mp3-files (large ones) the speed of the player is too fast, which gives ofcourse a very strange sound to the file. Any idea what could cause this and how to solve it?
    Thanks for helping!

    Letters to the Editor
This year’s biovea biovea TV ad campaigns have had a significant and lasting impact on me. The mute button on my TV remote has worn out. I’ll have to get a new one before 2008.

    Hi!

    Thanks for a great plugin!

I do have a problem using “Audio Player” under Firefox 2.0 on the Mac though: the player just isn’t displayed. I’m having no problems with Safari, Firefox 2.0 on Windows and IE 7.0. (The post is at http://loehrwald.de/wess/?p=7)

Do you have any idea, what could solve my problem?

    Thanks for your time!

    hey,
i have a small q for you, ‘coz i’m tryin’ to fix smth and i don’t have the slightest idea how to do it.
i use your audio player plugin an i find it great. it can even play live audio streams. and i mean realtime online radio. my only problem is that the plugin can play only live.m3u files. it would have been ok if was using icecast, most probably (i’m not the tech guy) for streaming, but i use shoutcast. and shoutcast gives me a listen.pls file. now: is there any possibility that i could use your plugin in playing a listen.pls file?
    thank you :)

ps: please notice me in anyway, comment or email, if you have an answer :)

  13. #13: Martin Says:

Celio: i can’t help you if i don’t know your problem. My player works on all browsers if you embed it properly.

    Hi Martin,
Thanks for your excellent player, very nice ;)
I would like to change the look of the player and downloaded the source here:
    http://dev.wp-plugins.org/brow.....unk/source
But I am getting error messenges about the emff.as.
Your latest download for player plugin does not include any .as files? Do I not need them? Is the .fla the latest release, MX7 or MX8?
I’d relly appreciate any comments. Thanks ahead of time.
    Christina

Christina: I just downloaded the source from the svn repository and it worked perfect. The best way to download the files is to use an svn client. If you have one, connect to this svn repository: http://svn.wp-plugins.org/audio-player/trunk

If you don’t know how to use SVN, I can email you a zip with the source.

The only problem I have is that the background of an unexpanded player (the part to the right of the play button before you stay playing) is a white block and my site is dark blue. How do you set the color behind the player?

If you have any question about what I’m talking about, visit my site and look at the most recent post.

  18. #18: Martin Says:

Paul: you need to set the “page background” of the player to black or transparent. This is the very last setting on the options page.

    D’oh! Thanks!!!

    Hi everyone,
My problem is that the Flash player draws a one colored rectangle with FireFox 2.0, IE6 and Wordpress 2.1. I can change that color by selecting the “Page background color” option, but it doesn’t draw the player button. I can see your players on your web pages, so I don’t understand what’s going wrong ? Thank you for your help. I’m creating a website for my music.

    regards,

  21. #21: Martin Says:

Julien: sounds like you installed the player in the wrong folder. Make sure you extract the zip file to the plugins folder. You don’t need to create an “audio-player” folder, it is in the zip file already.

  22. #22: Julien Says:

This is a speed of sound response ! :-)
That’s right, it works fine. I should have been more careful with installatation details.
    Thank you very much.
